The 26th Annual WineSong! Fundraiser for the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation was another enormously successful event. Thanks to the efforts of Foundation staff members, Jeri Erickson, Terese Kelley, Aimee Hanson and Caleb Cimmiyotti, in addition to the Foundation Board of Directors, Advisory Board and our hundreds of fabulous volunteers. And, of course we are especially indebted to our sponsors and our wonderful donors who, once again, donated exotic wines, original artwork, trips and unforgettable experiences. This year’s Live Auction raised $475,000. And since this does not include the money raised in the Silent Auction, I would not be surprised if this year's gross from the 2 auctions reaches $500,000! We at the Mendocino Coast District Hospital are incredibly fortunate to have this support, which includes all of our hardworking volunteers, which starts at the Board level and extends to the hundreds of volunteers who work for months up to the day of the event and then donate their time to make this Charity Auction so successful. Do our guests at WineSong! realize that their table servers, auction spotters, cashiers, parking lot attendants (and more) are doctors, nurses, managers and employees from virtually EVERY department in our hospital?
Highlights of the auction featured 3 trips to Tuscany, including a dream 7-night experience at the majestic Castiglion del Bosco estate, Il Borro estate in the heart of Tuscany’s winemaking region. The winning bid forthat trip of a lifetime was $32,000. This Tuscany adventure included air fare donated by Piaggio Aero and $2,500 in spending money. The $2,500 in spending money (and another $2,500 for the second and third trips) was donated by several members of the MCDH Medical Staff. Thank you to Drs. Frank Bavuso, Jack Bellah, John Cottle, Diane Harris, Linda James, John Kerman, Paul Lagomarsino, Andrea McCullough, Russell Perry, John Rochat, Richard Sacks-Wilner and John Wallance! In all there were 79 lots sold this year. Lot 79 was a spirited auction for the center table at next year’s WineSong! event, complete with table service by MCDH Oncologist, Dr. John Rochat. This year’s auction also included another “Fund A Cause” opportunity. In past years, “Fund A Cause” has raised badly needed funds for such worthy causes, such as the Emergency Department portable ultrasound unit, the Elwin Cox Cancer Fund and for a new ambulance. This year the “Fund A Cause” raised $48,200 to go towards creating a new Patient Waiting Area for ICU and Obstetrics. It is very humbling to see all of the hard work of so many people, from the volunteers to the donors to the sponsors and ultimately to our wonderful guests. All of you came together to help us provide the very best possible health care on the Mendocino Coast. And your contributions are making a huge difference! On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff, I would like to thank each and every one of you!
