My heart goes out to all of the people of Haiti that have been devastated during the recent earthquakes and aftershocks. I know that almost all of us wish, during times like this, that there was something that we could do to help. That brings me to telling you all how proud I am to be associated with the staff that we have here at Mendocino Coast Hospital. Shortly after the earthquake hit, I started to receive messages from staff members at our hospital inquiring if our hospital was aware of any way that they could contribute. Then, there was perhaps the most exciting message of all. Dr. Jennifer Surber (pictured on left), our newest Emergency Room doctor, announced that she had made arrangements to travel to Haiti to provide medical relief for the victims. She got in touch with an organization called “Heart to Heart International.” In addition to sending medical professionals to Haiti, they are also coordinating donations of supplies and hygiene kits.
Their website is located at www.hearttoheart.org in case anyone would like to know how you can contribute. Last Friday we gathered up some supplies that Jennifer could take with her on her trip. We had so many supplies that we will have to ship the rest. Thank you Dr. Surber for making this trip. You are making our hospital and our Country very proud! If I receive any messages from Dr. Surber for the next 7 to 10 days while she is gone, I will share them on this blog.
